The Boston Athenæum has been a home for curious lifelong learners for over 200 years. As one of the most iconic institutions in Boston, we take very seriously our obligation to preserve this historic treasure for future generations. Planned gifts are a way for you to help safeguard the Athenæum and make a meaningful investment in our future.

John Bromfield’s initial bequest of $25,000 in 1846 has grown to more than $6.5 million. His generosity and foresight enabled the Library to maintain its distinction as one of the country's leading research institutions. Those who follow in John’s footsteps by making a planned gift to the Athenæum are invited to join the John Bromfield Society. Bromfield Society members are recognized in the Annual Report and are invited to a special Athenæum event once a year.

Members of the Bromfield Society have helped the Athenæum continue to thrive as a sanctuary for lifelong learners. Planned gifts preserve this extraordinary building, maintain our infrastructure and operations, and offer exceptional events and programming. We would love to talk about your relationship to the Athenæum and the impact your gift will make.
